Spring musings

    Aminya Grove

It’s hard to believe that it’s spring already; or maybe that’s just because Flat Out Produce has been hibernating……..?! But plans are afoot to get back out to the markets and start getting ready for Christmas!

Some of you may have been waiting with baited breath for news of the 2022 olive oil season….unfortunately, it is not good news. Aminya Grove were unable to harvest this year. The cool, wet summer coupled with the grove’s location (at 1200m) meant that there just wasn’t sufficient time (nor warmth) for the olives to ripen. Jason and his family are obviously devastated but we also know of others in the district – whether olive growers or other producers – who are also at the whim of the weather.

What does this mean for supply for the next 12 months or so? Well, as luck would have it, Jason has informed me that he has just enough of the previous season’s Olimia Estate extra virgin olive oil to keep everyone happy (hopefully!). It has been properly stored and still retains that wonderful, robust, fruity flavour that you’ve all come to expect by now from the Olimia Estate EVOO. With careful planning, this means I will also have enough EVOO to continue to use as the base for all of Flat Out Produce’s infused olive oils.

There will however be a change to minimum container size; for many reasons (time/cost/efficiency/quality), the olive oil is packaged into 2 litre tins. However, our pricing structure reflects this as well as the fact that this is not ‘new season’ oil. There will be significant savings for purchasing either a carton (8 x 2 litre tins) or a quantity of 20 litres (10 x 2 litre tins) at a time. Individual tins will still be available through Flat Out Produce and also through the Southern Harvest Association Farmers Markets (Community Stall) and Produce box scheme.

Please email kerenza@flatoutproduce.com.au for all the pricing details. Delivery is expected sometime in October.

In the meantime, I am making plans to restock my full range of infused olive oils, olive leaf tea and dukkah….while still juggling family, uni, work and so on….! Friends and family who know me well, know that I have a tendency to take on far too much. Well, nothing has changed! But I am looking forward to getting back to the markets in person, finishing this website (online shopping anyone….?!) and making it through to the end of my university semester with my sanity relatively intact.
